Complaint #9981 — Tasneem Jiruwala

Filed: 21 Jan 2015  ·  Address:
This is a general complaint regards VAT levied during sales by various companies and brands. Apparel and other goods sold at MRP in stores have tags that mention the product details as well as the MRP which includes tax. Now during sales, most standalone brand stores as well as multi-brand outlets, have started charging an additional VAT on the discounted merchandise. This ends up in the customer being charged VAT twice. This is in your face cheating done to the customer. The stores need to deduct VAT from the MRP on their tags and then offer a discount on which they charge VAT. In effect if an item has been charged VAT on MRP, it would be higher with an additional VAT being charged on the discounted price. I request the VAT department to look into this and stop this malpractice. Looking forward to an early end to this practice. Thank you. Tasneem.
