Complaint #146 — J.V. Murthy

Filed: 3 Aug 2012  ·  Address: A-212, Twin Towers, V.S. Marg, Prabhadevi, Mumbai 400 025
I purchased an HP FOLIO 13-1017TU Ultrabook on 10/07/2012 (Product Sl. No. CND206LDNY). The quote contained a clause that HP offers 2 years extended warranty by paying additional Rs.1133. I was informed by the vendor that I have to send the request to HP separately and it cannot be done at the time of purchase. He gave me the website address, as per which the customer is required send online request followed by couriering barcode cutout from the box, personal ID, invoice and a cheque for the said amount within 15 days to HP Redemption Cell, Solutions Integrated Marketing Services Pvt. Ltd. I made online registration on 13/07/2012 and send the documents through courier on 16/07/2012, which was received on their end on 18/07/2012 as per courier track mail. Since I did not receive any communication and the cheque was not encashed, I sent an email, in response to which, the organization asked me to share registration code. Since online registration does not throw any code, I requested them where I can access it from. I was informed with one line curt response, “This is to inform that we have not received any online registration against the Serial No.CND206LDNY and hence are unable to proceed with the claim processing”. When I wrote back stating that I had done online registration and then only sent the documents, which were received at their end well within the scheduled time, they sent me a reply, “As per the T&C of the offer, claims will only be processed if online registration is done within 12 days from date of purchase and documents sent within 15 days from date of registration”. Thereafter, my emails did not receive any response. When the online registration website does not return or send (to email address given in the registration form) any registration number, how can a customer know whether his/her request has been registered or not much less send the registration number. I do not know why HP cannot collect the money at the time of purchase as it is the warranty for the product, why should the customer produce an ID as the service is for the ultrabook and not to the customer, why online registration is required and when the customer is dealing with HP why an intermediate agency - Solutions Integrated Marketing Services Pvt. Ltd. - be brought in. When the documents have been sent much before the due date, what is the objective of insisting on online registration? The whole system does not inspire confidence and it appears to be only sales gimmick and not a genuine offer. I shall be thankful if you can kindly look into my complaint and guide me in this aspect at the earliest
