Complaint #12653 — Shubhada maitra

Filed: 7 May 2015  ·  Address: 23, Maniri, Makarand Society, Veer Savarkar Road, Mahim, Mumbai 400016
In brief, we had purchased a Toshiba LCD 40" TV on 14/5/ 2010. It was in perfect condition till 23/12/2014 when we called the Toshiba technician to get the HDMI slot cleaned. When he arrived on 23/12/2014 my 93 year old father was watching TV. Without a word, the technician sprayed WD 40 into the slots while the TV was still switched on. Obviously there was a short circuit and the TV went blank. He said it was a problem with the motherboard! We refused to pay the visit fee and wrote our comments on his invoice. We have subsequently taken up the matter with Toshiba India who have said (over the telephone) that we will have to pay for repairing the motherboard (apprx Rs. 20,000). In the meantime we have also had to buy external speakers and a new TV for which we incurred additional expenses. In my complaint to the Regional Manager, Toshiba India Pvt Ltd on 2/4/2015 I had asked that the TV set be replaced with a new one. I would be happy to meet with you or talk to you over the phone at a mutually convenient time and place to update you on this matter. What I would really like is for you to guide us on this matter and take it forward through the consumer court. Needless to say that your professional fees will be paid.
